Personalised gifts to help businesses show appreciation for staff?
Handing out personalised gifts may be one way businesses can show their appreciation for staff without having to raise pay or bonuses.
According to principal research fellow at the Institute for Employment Studies Dilys Robinson, non-cash rewards can go along way to making workers feel valued in the current economic climate.
She noted it is important for businesses to engage personnel even when they are unable to increase remuneration, stating that while employees "know they can't expect large financial rewards" they still want to be "valued for their contribution by the organisation".
Ms Robinson said a thank you message, either in person or in writing, from a senior manager can help - something that could be accompanied by items such as personalised mugs.
She made the comments as the latest Reed Job Index revealed salaries remain below the index's starting point of 100 across most of the UK, with only London, Scotland and Wales offering readings above this figure.
