Engraved gifts bestowed upon Mikhail Gorbachev?
Engraved gifts may have been among the items bestowed upon former USSR premiere Mikhail Gorbachev.
A selection of movie stars, singers and political figures turned up to celebrate the Nobel Prize-winning statesman's 80th birthday at London's Royal Albert Hall last week.
Kevin Spacey played host at the event - alongside Sharon Stone - and the pair hailed Gorbachev, who is widely thought of as one of the architects of the fall of the Soviet Union and consequently, the end of the Cold War.
"I don't think he's gotten the kind of due, or kind of respect or kind of adulation that I think he deserves. So (I'm) very happy that tonight people are going to take the time to pay tribute to him," Spacey said.
Other notable names at the celebration included actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger and Goldie Hawn.
After entering office in 1985, Gorbachev was welcomed for his policies of reform, in addition to his attempts at discourse with western nations, particularly former US president Ronald Regan.
